When Traditional Home invited me to Thermador’s “Great Kitchens” event in Southern California, I was instantly excited to have the opportunity to learn more about their product line. Having been to a similar event for Sub-Zero/Wolf, I felt as though it would be an advantageous experience that would help me specify Thermador with more confidence in the future.
The experience was executed with the utmost panache from start to finish. The Thermador Experience and Design Center is comprised of cabinetry vignettes paired with sparkly new appliances, an interactive kitchen, and plenty of culinary treats to sustain an all day adventure.
We started our experience with a tour of the showroom, while being offered smoothies and small bites along the way, and concluded with a lovely breakfast spread in the interactive kitchen. We continued on to a presentation on Thermador’s history, the brand overview, and product highlights. Until then, I hadn’t realized the depth of Thermador’s history in the appliance industry. Having invented the cooktop and the wall oven, they were clearly ahead of their time. I was impressed with Thermador’s vintage ads illustrating integrated refrigeration and downdrafts; concepts many designers would consider modern day. Zach Elkin, Director of Brand Marketing emphasized the brand message to create innovative products that drive performance and timeless design for the culinary enthusiast.
During this experience, I began to compare other luxury brands to Thermador, and took note of some of their exclusive details. Some of my favorite include: the first ever 48″ range with steam oven, pre-set zones and LED theatre style side lighting within refrigeration, cooling vents within the refrigerator door and last but not least diamond shaped ice cubes.
Following the presentations, we met the Thermador chefs and were able to try our hands at food prep on various Thermador appliances. As an avid cook myself, this was one of my favorite parts of the day!
Over a glass of wine, we embarked on an enlightening round table discussion with fellow colleagues and several members of the Traditional Home and Thermador team. Our adventure concluded with dinner in Laguna Beach overlooking the Pacific. As I reflect on this action packed and perfectly planned event, I take away new industry friends, a new understanding of the Thermador advantage and a very full belly.
