Jen in Rome!
I was invited to take a family vacation this fall to Italy to visit Rome, Venice, and Florence. Since I had only once visited Cinque Terra on the Italian Riviera, I was excited to hit the hot spots. Here are some of my stand outs from the trip… Enjoy!
First Stop, Rome:
Trattoria Al Moro is in the heart of the city, and was perfect for a delicious and classic Italian dinner with a local vibe. Brush up on your Italian before you go!
Next up, Florence:
We found a beautifully curated collection of designer vintage at Marie Antoinette, and some great clothes and shoes at Flow.
‘La Menagere’, our favorite restaurant, was an iconic Florentine houseware shop that was recently resurrected into a concept-restaurant. They describe it as “a container that collects creative minds.” It’s a place where design brings together gourmet cuisine, flowers and housewares to create an informal atmosphere. A unique space where the food quality and the love of form are paramount, based on a collective idea and effort from a team of dreamers. Recycled and repurposed industrial materials and artisanal designed objects animate the 1500 mq modern space. It’s no wonder I was drawn to the space as we were wandering the streets!
Last but not least, Venice:
We visited Harry’s Bar to sample the Original Bellini which was fantastic. Turns out they had the best lemon meringue pie ever! It was touristy, but fun.
Hostaria De Franz, our favorite seafood restaurant, was a fantastic family run establishment with a verbal menu presented by the restauranteur.
The Malloni Store had great boots and handbags.
Headed to Hollywood!
While Jennifer was in Italy, Sierra, design & purchasing assistant, headed to sunny Los Angeles and took a tour of the best design locations throughout the city. Here are some of JHID’s favorite finds, and must see places! You will need a car to hit all these spots, but you will definitely get your steps in!
One Stop Shop: HD Buttercup on Helms Ave in Culver City (they have now expanded to multiple locations throughout the city) is a one stop shop for new furniture, rugs, and lighting in every style and price point. You can find other design resources at the Helms Bakery location for lighting, plumbing fixtures, hardware, mattresses, and more!
Antique Hunting: JF Chen… a life’s worth of collecting and curating has resulted in three warehouses loaded from floor to ceiling with unique pieces from across the globe just waiting to be discovered. All three locations can be found on Highland Ave in the heart of West Hollywood. *Not for the faint of heart.
The Up & Comers:
Croft House: Sustainably and locally designed in Los Angeles… we love their minimal vibe and the ability of their pieces to transition between various design aesthetics.
Graye LA: Clean, minimal, European, and so fresh. This space is a must see for the modern minimalist.
